Luv Gospel 2018 Gospel Music Awards
4th October 2018
For the second year running, North Wembley Community Seventh-day Adventist church hosted Luv Gospel over one week inviting some of the best UK gospel artists to minister to the Brent community with the purpose of bringing the community together through music and health.
Founder, Michael Agyei-Asare, seized the opportunity to bring back four free evenings of gospel music to the Brent community, which was hosted by London minister, Paul King-Brown, from London Live Community Church.
For four nights, attendees were immersed in the live gospel experience and enjoyed premier gospel artists performing. The event was also streamed live to allow those who could not secure tickets to enjoy the experience over the internet.
Each evening attendees, of which the majority were non-Adventists, were invited to join our praise and worship with the resident Praise Team and house band before Dr Chidi, one of Europe's leading lifestyle doctors, who specialises in reversing illnesses, (such as type-2 diabetes, hypertension, autoimmune diseases and obesity), was able to present the health spot. As there was a particular focus on health, Luv Gospel wanted to assist guests in life-changing decisions. Dr Chidi also left time at the end of his presentations for visitors to ask questions; after which Pastor King-Brown also gave out DVDs and a free FitBit to win each evening.
To reflect the diverse community in Brent Luv Gospel was intentional about inviting artists who could reflect this. Every artist delivered exceptional performances each night.
Unfortunately, there was a notable absence on the penultimate night where NHS Choir, B-Positive from the Britain's Got Talent final could not attend as sadly one of their members lost their lives in a fatal incident. Thankfully winners of Sky channel's Sing: Ultimate A Cappella, Vadé dedicated their performance to the memory of Simonne Kerr.
This year's Luv Gospel artists included:
Charles Dada – Premier Gospel 2018 Winner
Jason Nicholson-Porter – The Voice UK 2018
Becca Folkes – Premier Gospel 2018 nominee
Vadé ‒ Sky channel's Sing: Ultimate A Cappella
London African Gospel Choir
Croydon Youth Choir
Called Out Music ‒ Premier Gospel 2018 Winner
Paul Lee – Royal wedding lead vocalist
Philippa Hanna ‒ UK Country Music 2018 nominee
Noel Robinson ‒ Premier Gospel 2018 Winner
The Wednesday night event was one of the highlights of the week as there was a true spirit of worship as Paul Lee set the tone for Becca Folkes and Jason Nicolson-Porter who sang songs that lifted people closer to Christ.
On the final night worship was opened by Called Out Music and Philippa Hanna. Philippa, a returning artist from last year's event who again gave her personal testimony that touched the hearts of many people. Following Philippa, Luv Gospel closed this event late into the evening with the irrepressible worship leader Noel Robinson, a local resident of Brent, who is one of the most renowned British Praise and Worship leaders the UK. Guests basked in the reality that they had witnessed an amazing four days of free live gospel music!
Plans are already underway for the next Luv Gospel event. See you there in 2019!
